Steven H.

Having aged out of the foster system, Steven is left trying to make it on his own. Just 24 years old, Steven is already all too familiar with homelessness and hunger. He speaks openly and without airs about his sometimes-painful reality.

“It’s almost like you have no stomach.”
-Steven

Throughout his childhood, Steven was bounced from family member to family member until he turned 18. Having a steady home was something he never experienced, and over the last six years, Steven has been homeless more than once.

“From 18 on I’ve been homeless on and off.”
-Steven

Without much of a support system, Steven has done what he’s had to do to survive. During low points, when he couldn’t find work, he admits there were times when he was forced to resort to eating food out of dumpsters.

“Honestly, I started to lose my mind a little bit.”
-Steven
